At the movie set of ‘A Good Year’ !

18-1

The movie

Peter Mayle set his book “A Good Year” in the Luberon, telling a story about a British investment whiz who inherits a vineyard in Provence from an uncle he hadn’t seen in years. Director Ridley Scott and Mayle are friends who both own homes in the Luberon. Apparently Scott and Mayle talked about the book before it was written, and the film project was launched quickly in 2006. The film was shot almost entirely at the exquisite ‘Château La Canorgue’ (see picture above) and starred Russell Crowe, Albert Finney and the beautiful French actress named Marion Cotillard. Need a reminder ? Then click here for the trailer.
And may I suggest you open up a gooooooooood bottle of Provencal wine while watching…double pleasure 🙂

The view from La Canorgue

Looking west toward Bonnieux and ‘Le Petit Luberon’, the village is just vaguely identifiable in the distance. This perspective was shown several times in the movie !

Luberon

The Luberon, situated in the middle of the Provence, is composed of three mountain ranges. From west to east: Little Luberon, Big Luberon and Oriental Luberon.
It is a favorite destination for French high society and British and American visitors because of the pleasant and picturesque towns and villages, comfortable way of life, agricultural wealth, historical and cultural associations and hiking trails. Our US friends Jackie and Pam were more interested in tasting their outstanding wines… 🙂 🙂 🙂

A happy Jackie !

Winery

This acclaimed Côtes du Luberon winery, located about a mile outside the village of Bonnieux, is well-known for its fine organic wine. One of the oldest vineyards of the Luberon, Château Canorgue is a small family estate for over 5 generations in the same family of wine growers. Jean Pierre Margan now works with his daughter Nathalie whom he transmitted his passion.

6-1

In quality research, respect for the vine and the environment, the vineyard is over 35 years old, grown in organic method with some principles of biodynamics and is certified organic (Ecocert).

Outside tasting room

Not many wineries have an outside tasting room, and especially not one as authentic as this one…sooo nice !

 Inside tasting room

The wines are regularly quoted in the award winning and great guides and national and international competitions which makes Château Canorgue THE reference in the Luberon. So if you ever have the opportunity to stop by, please do !

Highlight of the day

Apparently to my US friends, visiting Château La Canorgue was truly ‘THE HIGHLIGHT’ of their day while touring in the Luberon. Even after having visited amazing Gordes, extraordinary Roussillon and lovely downtown Bonnieux, this was the most exciting part for them. And to have their picture taken in front of this famous place…made it even more memorable. Glad I could be of service ! 🙂

Hope you enjoyed the article and ‘À très bientôt’ ! xxx
