‘En route’ to Montbrun-les-Bains !

Montbrun-les-Bains (1)

Montbrun-les-Bains, classed among the most beautiful villages in France, is built right up against a hill facing the Mont Ventoux. It is a commune in the Drôme, neighbouring the Vaucluse. This village is well known for its spa treatments, for managing respiratory disease and other medical disorders (read more about it by clicking here). The silhouette of this hilltop village is simply breathtaking…You will understand I could not resist taking this ‘inevitable’ picture 🙂

Mont Ventoux ever present
Also here, Mont Ventoux takes a peek
Exceptional view, never losing sight of Mont Ventoux

Village

That being said, we headed to the village to take a closer look. From the bend of a steep road in the old town, you are able to contemplate an exceptional panorama. High houses with 6 to 7 levels that follow one another in layers, a church, a ruined castle that dominates everything and the Montbrun ‘baths’ to be ranked among the most beautiful villages in France.

The castle of Montbrun, built in the 14th century, is the main setting of the novel by Pierre Magnan, INSANITY FORCALQUIER (la FOLIE FORCALQUIER).

Old town

To discover the old town you have to cross some doorways … very impressive ones like this, ‘Portail Ste Marie’.

Highlights

Besides the château which we covered earlier, the three highlights of the village are the church, the belfry and the numerous fountains / wash basins.

On your right ‘Fontaine du Beffroi’
