Ho Ho Ho! Let it snow!

The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a MAGICAL event! You go to bed in one kind of a world and wake up in another quite different, and if this is not enchantment then where is it to be found? Exactly, in Provence!

1st December 2017

December 1st makes a lot of us think of the holidays. It’s hard not to think about snow even if your climate doesn’t bring it. Here in Provence, it certainly is quite unusual to have snow at all, let alone beginning of December!

First snowfall

Even if you despise snow, you have to admit the first snowfall and accumulation of the season is quite beautiful. Everything is clean, white and pure. The eyes are instantly aware of something new and your senses may delight in a change to the normal daily environment to which they have grown accustomed.

But not in Provence right?

We didn’t believe our eyes, nor the weather report, and most certainly not those first flakes that began to fall. But then we awoke from a good night’s sleep to see curtains of light white flakes swirling about outside. But, this is Provence! What’s up? This is far from normal. But then again, what is considered ‘normal’ these days…

Car-free Friday

The village kids are psyched – school is closed (of course!). The locals (unless they come from up north) are incapable of driving in this weather, and in any case, nearly no one has snow tires. To be honest, I prefer not to hit the road either. Roads are quite different here and not adapted AT ALL to this kind of weather.

Home sweet home

So, home we are, the stove well stocked with wood to burn throughout the day. Do I dare go out for a walk with Diesel? When the wind calms… and luckily I brought my snow boots from Holland this time.

The small sandy path which is covered under a delicate bed of snow…

Nothing but silence, though the mistral is still howling outside. In the meantime, our sweet Diesel cannot be bothered… 🙂
