Tour de France 14th July 2016, stage 12, Montpellier-Mont Ventoux

28-2

The event of the summer of 2016
Tour de France on top of the Mont Ventoux on Bastille Day!

For the 16th time a stage of the Tour de France took place on the famous Mont Ventoux, also called The Beast. This ascent, an epic battle between the climbers, a personal battle of the riders vs. this ‘out of category’ mountain, was full of surprises and will write a new page in the history of the Tour!
We lucky bastards had the opportunity to see them close-by because yes, they did pass our litlle sleepy village called Malemort-du-Comtat!
Here you see some impressions of the village slowly getting ready for the Tour ♥

The Fans

Since we are not bikers ourselves, the reason we basically watch the Tour is to see the fabulous regions of this wonderful country called France but even more so for the spectators and supporters. They come in all sizes and colours, with different levels of enthusiasm 🙂 and exactly that diversity makes it so pleasant to watch ♥

There we go!

Suddenly, when the sound of helicopters catches your ear, you know it’s that magical time, the time when the ‘karavaan’ and its cyclists will soon arrive…so exciting!

35-2

Arrival of the leading group with the Belgian winner,
Thomas De Gendt!

13 minutes later Froome’s party arrives…

Rushing home!

Since they only had about 25km to ride before arrival at the Mont Ventoux, we rushed home to see the final on tv. Such a sad story for Froome who somehow ‘lost’ his bike and started running in panic but what a blessing for us Belgians because…yessssss…Thomas De Gendt and Serge Pauwels made another 1-2 for Belgium at Mont Ventoux! Therefore, I feel it is my duty to end this wonderful day with a picture of our winner!
Contratz Thomas! Job well done! 🙂

Thomas De Gendt
