Spring in Provence is the sun which illuminates the orchards and the gardens in bloom, it’s the local festivals which smell of strawberries or herbs, the walks in the heart of nature, trips out to discover the region and new horizons…. It’s about simply enjoying the magic of the special moments as a couple, a family, or among friends.
Sunshine and warm weather walking
There are definite seasons in the south of France with warmer weather and sunshine arriving in spring before the hot days of summer. After a long winter up North, it’s a huge delight to head off to a place where the sun will shine warmer and longer each day. The summer can be too hot for walking, especially for our sweetheart dog Diesel, but in spring the climate and temperature is arguably at its best. The popular routes will also be a lot less crowded before the tourist season properly heats up.
Round trip Malemort – Venasque (10km)
We kicked off our hiking season with a few close-to-home walks. Not too difficult but far enough to feel the exertion. The beautiful scenery and breath-taking views, the (usually) beautiful sunshine and blue skies providing excellent weather and the well maintained footpaths and signposts will show you on your way, making a walk or hike in Provence a lovely experience. You can include vineyards in your walk, some historical monuments or do a tour of some of the prettiest villages, just like Venasque. No further comment needed if you ask me, just ‘inhale’ the beauty by clicking on each image… :)
Round trip Malemort – Mazan (12km)
Walking and hiking in Provence gets more and more popular each year but you will still find that the trails are quiet and sometimes you may feel like you have the route and beautiful views to yourself, with only the wildlife around. There really is so much to offer walkers and there are routes suitable for beginners right through to more advanced walkers. Also here I believe the images speak a 1000 words, don’t they… :)
The huge Provence area means you can always experience something new, with different views or terrain, on your walk or hike. Heading up into the mountains of Mont Ventoux you can challenge yourself to a mountain hike. We’ll probably do that one more towards summertime when it tends to be extremely warm and dry downland, while it gets cooler up in the mountains.
From a free walk to a free meal…
This is what I adore about this agricultural area…the fact that you can simply run into workers on a farm who hand over a bag of freshly picked asparagus in exchange for…a picture of them :) I guess these kind of individuals are very often being ‘overlooked’ and when you take a moment to make conversation, they seem to be quite happy to talk about what they do. And we were very willing to listen! Such a treat! A big free bag of asparagus straight from the field! Thanks again guys! It was Asparagious!!!!
Lunch alfresco
Cafés open their doors once again in spring and it’s a great time for sitting outside for lunchtime or for evening dining. You might still need to wear a warm jacket for outdoors dining in spring though.

To my dear followers…THANK YOU and stay tuned for lots more!
